   GOOD Hair is Healthy Hair

 Hair is considered damaged:

  • When the texture, structure, and elasticity have been affected to the extent that it is brittle, broken, matted or split.

  • When it is gummy and has lost its elasticity.

  • When it is over-porous.

These conditions may be caused by over-exposure to sun and salt water, over-bleaching, faulty relaxing / permanent waving, excessive coating bymetallic dyes, hair restorers, hennas, compound hennas or rinses; or by improper use of shampoos, bleaches, tints and other chemical preparations. When any of these conditions exist, reconditioning treatments are necessary.

            The 10  HAIR COMMANDMENTS

I     Thou shalt manage thy mane

If your hair is damaged, dry or color-treated, it is best to use products formulated to repair and hydrate, adding much-needed strength. If your hair is oily, I suggest a deep-
cleansing shampoo and a light conditioner to keep it looking its best."

II   Thou shalt not steal the moisture from thy hair

Are you a victim of washing your hair every day? You're not alone. Daily washing steals the
natural oils from the hair cuticle and can leave your tresses weak, limp and difficult to work with. "I suggest washing hair every two to three days and for extra protection,  finish with a cool-to-cold rinse to help seal the hair cuticle and impart natural shine."

III   Thou shalt worship nourishing products

A mild shampoo is best for hair, especially in the warmer months when hair is exposed to
harsh conditions such as sun, salt and chlorine. It is vital to following washing with a nourishing conditioner.

We Recommend Morroccan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner  Available at Hair iT iZ.

IV Thou shalt invest in at-home treatments

"I recommend investing in an intensive repair treatment. Repair masks penetrate deep into the hair cuticle, offering a surge of moisture, replenishing the condition of your hair once again."

Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask & Restorative Hair Mask Available at Hair iT iZ

V   Thou shalt use heating tools with caution

Are you wedded to your hair straightener and blow dryer? Created specifically to prevent heat damage, thermal protecting products are a must. "These products create a fine layer around the cuticle of your hair, preventing the heat generated by the appliance from penetrating your cuticle, which will leave it dry, dull and damaged."

VI    Thou shalt have patience with knots

"Frustrating knots need to be tended to with care to hinder breakage. I suggest brushing hair before washing it and then when wet, use a wide tooth comb to ease the knots. For fine, dry or fragile hair it is best to brush with a conditioner in to hinder breakage."

VII     Thou shalt let it hang loose

Wearing your tresses in a tight bun or braid can cause breakage and baldness, so let it hang loose on occasions.

VIII    Thou shalt protect hair from the sun

As summer approaches, harsh summer rays, salt water and chlorine all contribute to the degradation of the hair follicle. Always use moisturising sprays with SPF which shield the hair from UV. Once a week use a cleansing shampoo as well as a nourishing treatment.

IX   Thou shalt be religious about salon visits

Regular trims and salon treatments will keep hair in optimum condition. "I suggest you visit your salon every six to eight weeks."

X   Thou shalt be the envy of your friends

This is a given if you follow the 10 commandments, the last being to always maintain a
style that suits your colouring, lifestyle and facial structure.

TRIMMING YOUR HAIR

What are the Benefits of Trimming?

  • Improving the appearance of hair
  • Making hair even
  • Getting rid of split ends
  • Making ends thicker
  • Preventing split ends
  • Keeping the split ends from splitting higher up the hair shaft
  • Getting rid of damage
  • Removing knots if your hair is curly
  • Healthy African American Hair!

What Happens if You Don't Trim?

One thing I commonly hear regarding healthy  hair care: Do ends need to be trimmed?  There are people who are on both sides of the fence on this issue.

My opinion is that trimming is absolutely necessary to achieve long, healthy hair.  (Now, should you just be wishing for long hair, then trimming may not be necessary for you.)

Here are a list of issues you may experience as a result of not trimming:

  • Thin Ends - If you have split ends or damage at the ends of your hair and don't cut it off, then they will eventually break off on their own.  Since ALL of the hair won't have the split ends or damage, you'll only lose some of the hair.  The result:  Thin ends.

  • Tangles - You'll experience tangles do the split ends you have that are tangling around each other.  If the ends split and leave "half an end," then that end is thinner mingling in with thicker ends causing tangling. Hair that is natural or curly may form knots that will contribute to tangles in the same way

  • Unhealthy appearance - Healthy  hair has a better appearance when the ends are thick.  Thin ends do not look healthy whether or not the ends are split. (There are some things you can do to disguise this if you're slowly trimming thin ends away though.)

  • Gradually Worse Split Ends - Not trimming split ends can sometimes lead to further splitting of that hair.  Meaning that had you trimmed sooner rather than later, you wouldn't have to trim as much.

  • Dryness - Dryness can occur when the ends are so damaged that they are no longer able to retain moisture.  You may have noticed this when no matter what you do to your ends, they are still dry.  Trimming them could relieve this provided that your hair is healthy otherwise.

  • Frizzy Ends - This occurs when there are split ends, knots, and damage.  Sometimes frizzy ends may seem to be there but show no signs of knots, damage or split ends.  Sometimes end just get old from daily styling or products.  I would guess that trimming a small amount would result in less frizzy ends!

  • And you defintely won't achieve healthy hair without trimming.

PREVENTING
HAIR LOSS NATURALLY

It is always easier to stop something ahead of time instead of waiting and stopping it after it has already happened.     This is the same with preventing hair loss in comparison with waiting until you’ve already lost your hair and trying to re-grow it. Preventing hair loss can be done as early as age 18 or 20 and it is a wise decision especially if you have a family history of baldness or thin hair.     The sooner you plan ahead the sooner you will see results and the less of a chance you will go bald in the future. No one wants to go bald and you don’t have to if you take the proper steps. Here are a few remedies and solutions to preventing hair loss to the best of your abilities.

1. Number One- Eat and drink biotin.
Biotin is a very essential vitamin that will aid in hair growth and you can get this in foods such as honey, milk and bananas. A great, healthy and tasty way to get biotin is to make a blended shake with these ingredients and yogurt.

2. Number Two- Stop stress!
Stress is one of the leaders for hair loss reasons and the least amount of stress you allow in your life the better
for your hair. Get a stress ball, get a massage and do whatever you can to release all the stress from your life.

3. Number Three: Massage your scalp every time you shampoo your hair.
Massaging your head in the shower not only cleanses your scalp but it also increases the blood flow and circulation within your head. This is even more important as you age because circulation slows down the older you get and you should keep circulation in mind.

4. Number Four: Sleep!
Sleep cures a lot of problems and it is vital to keeping the entire body in sync and healthy. Your hair is only one of the things that will benefit from getting proper sleep (7 to 9 hours of sleep per night consistently).

5. Number Five: Get Vitamin B in your everyday foods and supplements.
Vitamin B is one of the most essential vitamins you can get and Vitamin
B6 a key to healthy hair. If you don’t feel that you are getting enough Vitamin B in your foods everyday then you should look into getting a good vitamin supplement to go with your daily regimen.

While baldness is largely a hereditary issue, that does not mean you can’t prevent it and fight against it. Once again, the best time to begin the hair loss prevention time is in your late teens to early 20s. Getting a head start on your hair loss potential is a good idea and will pay off in large ways as you get older and your hair thins out.

Healthy Hair statistics:
  1. A healthy head counts up to 100,000 individual hairs.
  2. 90% of these hairs are growing. The remaining hair is in transitional or resting phase.
  3. Daily, between 80 and 100 old hairs are shed.

What to do for a Healthy Hair? Tips:

  1. Brush your hair before washing it. This way you'll remove any dirt from your hair.
  2. Massage your scalp gently massage will boost your circulation.
  3. Shampoo. Nobody can tell you how often you have to shampoo your hair. When you feel your hair is dirty, wash it gentle, with a shampoo that works on your hair. Read the page about how to choose the right shampoo for more.
  4. Always Moisturize your hair
  5. Rinse Best way to rinse your hair is by using vinegar, if possible apple vinegar. Rinsing helps your hair shine.
  6. Water Try to use mildly cold water. Finish, if possible, with cold water, this will close the cuticles.
  7. Drying your hair Let your hair dry naturally. Squeeze the water, and then use a towel to blot your hair. This way you'll have a moisturized, healthy hair.
  8. Hairbrush Do not use a hairbrush until your hair is dry; the wet hair can be easily damaged. Avoid plastic hairbrushes; hair will probably end up in knots
  9. Season, age, sex, food & drink, tobacco, all have a big influence on hair growth. Have a healthy life and you'll have a healthy hair, too
  10. Hair styling Try to avoid curling irons and hair-dryers to prevent hair damage. Also, avoid heat and prolonged exposure to sunlight

What do we know about Hair?
Hair grows in cycles. For each hair cycle there are three phases
  1. Growth Phase: - When the cells at the scalp start multiply rapidly, a new hair start to growth. Those cells, together with keratin and other proteins form the hair.
  2. Transitional Phase: there is a period of 2-3 weeks after the growth of the hair stops.
  3. Resting Phase: - usually lasts 2-3 months, when the hair follicle rests. At the end of this phase the older hair is shed, and a new cycle begin.

What causes Hair Loss?

Androgenic Alopecia is the most common cause for hair loss. This include heredity, hormone problems and age.
Stress Has been shown that stress play an important part in hair loss, especially in women's hair loss. Women with important jobs are more affected, and stress added by hair loss do nothing then to make the condition even worse.
Age - A common hair loss cause is aging, which is a normal condition.
Medical condition - hair loss can occur due to different medical condition.

Hair Loss: What can be done?
Act from the beginning! The sooner you'll identify the problem, the best it can be treated.
Usually, professional advise is required. You may choose between hair loss cosmetical treatments and hair loss medical treatments.
